ABOUT

 Artistic Vision and Technique

Nadia Attura's artistry is defined by her remarkable ability to blend the real with the surreal, inviting viewers to explore distant, ethereal landscapes shrouded in mist. She employs a palette of vintage, pastel colours, which imbue her work with a distinctive illustrative touch and a dreamlike quality. Her meticulous collaging technique further enhances this atmosphere, seamlessly merging reality with imagination. Nadia’s multidisciplinary practice encompasses the use of various applied mediums such as paint, ink, and chalk, which she layers directly onto her location-based photographic prints. This process results in unique, finished editions that reflect her singular artistic vision.

Attura's botanical works celebrate delicacy and organic detail, while her landscapes evoke atmosphere and emotional depth. In her cactus series, sculptural plant forms become striking, almost iconic motifs that balance minimalism with opulence. Across all themes, Attura explores the relationship between nature, materiality, and perception, elevating natural subjects into luminous, timeless compositions that blur the boundary between photography and fine art.

How Nadia creates the Artworks:

The process begins with travel, where she uses both analogue and digital cameras to capture a location.
  • Broad Vistas & Details: She takes hundreds of photographs, ranging from wide landscapes to tiny "incidental" details like leaves, insects, or the patina on a stone. Her goal is to record not just the image, but the immersive feeling of being in that environment.

Back in her London studio, she begins "threading" these elements together.
  • Fragmenting and Layering: Using Photoshop, she fragments her photographs and layers them to construct an imagined landscape that never truly existed in one single frame.
  • The "Vanishing" Photo: During this stage, the original documentary-style photograph begins to "disappear" as it is transformed into a poetic, painterly interpretation

Once a digital template is formed, Attura brings the work back into the physical world.

  • Printing: She prints sections or templates of the collage onto A3 museum-grade cotton paper.
  • Hand-Applied Details: She applies physical layers directly to the paper using washes of paint, ink, pencils, chalk, and gold leaf. She sometimes uses natural tools like grass, sticks, or fabric to apply these marks.

4. Final Composition
The process concludes by merging the physical and digital one last time.
  • Rescanning: The hand-painted pieces are photographed or scanned back into the computer.
  • Final Assembly: All elements are combined into a final digital file, which is then used to create limited edition Giclée prints that can be produced at large scales, up to two meters square

Her work is heavily influenced by 19th-century botanical illustrators, Orientalism, and the vibrant colours of Gauguin and the setting desert sun.
